About 3 years ago I started to go cruelty free with my makeup products. At that time I used Covergirl Outlast Stay Fabulous 3-in-1 for my foundation. It was my all-time drugstore foundation because it had a nice coverage, went on smoothly (especially if you used a beauty blender type of sponge), and it did not create an oily mess.
Then, I vowed to finish off the last bottle I had of this fabulous foundation. And my search began for a cruelty free foundation that did not cost an arm and a leg. I tried the Tarte Amazonian Clay foundation. It was not amazing. It covered well, but I would get oily fairly soon, plus it was not such a smooth consistency making it a bit harder to work with.
Then a sales lady at Ulta suggested the Tarte Amazonian Clay Airbrush powder foundation. She also recommended buying the brush that is usually used with it. I liked how smoothly it went on and the coverage. Unfortunately the lady had matched me incorrectly and it left me looking like an oompa loompa – thanks.
So I went back and traded it for a lighter, golden undertone shade. It was a perfect match! However, this too soon became something I regretted buying. It made me oily. Mind you when I was using the Covergirl foundation I rarely found myself getting oily even when I was doing exercise and running around in the heat.
I was back at square one. I kept watching youtube videos and gurus who recommended this and that brand of foundation. I could not bring myself to spend that much money on something that may or may not work. I simply wanted to find the foundation that would actually work.
One day I found a video by Diana on her youtube channel LifeAsDiana and she spoke about Alima Pure. It was natural and organic and best of all they stated that these ingredients are never tested on animals. Since then I started doing some research and read what others said. I was convinced I may have had found a good foundation.
What was even better was that she mentioned you could get samples from them for a cheap price in case you didn’t know what your shade would be. So I started researching this company and went on their website. She was right, I could choose which shades I wanted to try out and they would send small samples for $1.75.
I ordered about 3 or 4 samples of what I thought would be closest to my shade. When I got them in the mail I was like a girl on Christmas Day :). Once I started to try them I liked the consistency and it went on smoothly. I used the Tarte kabuki brush and it works so well with it! I did find my shade and have been in love since. If you go on lightly you’ll find you don’t need a lot of product, which makes it last longer. Even when you want full coverage, you’d be surprised at how little you really need.
I since have bought 2 full sizes. Each costs $28. Alima Pure is coming out with new products and have expanded their selections. I haven’t tried anything else yet.
You can build it up to get full coverage if you like. Now that the temperatures are going down I don’t really have to worry about getting oily as much, rather I have to worry about being too dry. However, this will go on matte. Depending on your skin type you may find it works with your skin. With me it will usually stay matte for most of the day, but there are times when I get oily.
I found a couple of tips and tricks to reduce how long it will last. I’m still in the process of trying them out. They seem to be working, but I can’t be exactly sure because I’ve missed a couple of days here and there and the weather is crazy. I’ll find out if they help or if they are just a waste of time.
